Digital Preservation was founded, in 1999, to provide specialized digital imaging services. We take great pride in our ability to resolve unique digital imaging challenges for libraries, archives, universities, government agencies and document imaging companies. Our company history is fragile paper digitization which allows us a unique perspective of your project goals.
Diversity of project source material has required Digital Preservation to remain flexible and on the technological edge in approaching new projects. We tailor our solution and hardware specifically for each project based on your goals, type of material to be digitally formatted and cost effectiveness. Digitization, whether digital captures or scans, may be done on-site to alleviate concerns regarding the safety of valuable originals.
Source materials, digitally captured by Digital Preservation, have included large format maps, land plats, architectural renderings, etchings, watercolors, oils, lithographs, illuminated manuscripts, photographic material, bound volumes and mosaics. Items have been folded, framed, bound, encapsulated in Mylar and even set in concrete!
The largest original, captured as a single file, has been the 1892 Missouri Swamp Map, 63” X 92”, with linens to 108”, for the Missouri State Archives. |

The smallest items have been coins for the Newman Coin Museum at Washington University, St. Louis. The oldest has been bound engravings from 1518 for the St. Louis Public Library. The most unique being mosaics in concrete, up to 80” wide, for the Ravenna Mosaic Exhibit, Saint Louis University. Large volume projects have included 10,000 land plats for the St. Louis City Recorder of Deeds and 9000 photographic items for the Atlanta History Center.
We are advancing in the area of information restoration, having recently completed the retrieval of information literally disappearing before our eyes.
Several projects have had faded fragile paper documents requiring digital magic to make them legible once again! Challenges, such as this, keep this exciting and demonstrate our true capabilities.
Located in West St. Louis County, Missouri with three associates, our services are digitization (off or on-site), archival printing, digital restoration/ rescue of historic information and exhibit design.
Digital Preservation has the experience, technical expertise and dedication to understand the fragile paper nature of our past and to deliver the highest quality digital image files currently obtainable. Our goal is to digitally capture history for the future!
